In the past I played a lot like real-life Yul Kwon, but in this season I had to adapt my gameplay given the higher level of difficulty I was facing.
I am going to go with Denise Stapley.
While I didn't go to every single tribal council (which is her biggest accomplishment), I did go to one damn near every night of this game. I also with in the majority vote of every vote I participated in (with the exception, I guess, of the final four). Just like Denise, idols messed me up a little bit but I was able to adapt to them individually by shifting who I was talking to and ultimately playing with.
Adaptation is where I think this comparison really comes into play. Denise was in a situation where she ran her original tribe, and then when switched (alone), she had to really dig into the majority and make new alliances to keep her alive. She didn't just settle on short-term deals that would help her survive the next tribal council. She was solidifying plans for a long-term game, even in that situation. I did the same thing both times I was switched into the minority.
First on Bai 2.0, I made deals with Vytas, Andrea, Liliana, Rory, Candice (plus Rudy and myself). This wasn't one giant alliance, but a mish-mash of deals. On Bai 3.0, it came into play when Rudy and I had a deal with Candice already, and that was likely the only reason she helped us vote out Penner instead of going with her former allies. While I was there on Bai Qi 3.0, that's where I started my relationship with Ozzy, which would last for most of the game.
When Denise made the merge, she was in a strong alliance at that point plus she had Malcolm who was re-joining her from her original tribe. She went on to dominate the season, vote-wise. She was involved in every elimination (including split votes) and by the people started to be worried about her, it was really too late to do anything about it. She had been voting out the people who were the largest targets and came to the end of the game after having had a hand in all of the jurors' downfall.
My merge was very similar. Quiet at first, but progressively more involved as the size (and volume) of the targets around me increased. She was never in any real danger after she made the merge and neither was I. Obviously the final four is where this comparison kind of dies, because that was a whole different monster then what she had to go through. She was better at challenges then me this season, so I had to adapt to the fact that I couldn't snag immunity ever
Bonus question : which past Survivor runner-up(s) do you think deserved the win over the actual winner. and also why.
I agree with Cass. If you didn't get the votes of the people who you had a hand in voting out then you didn't deserve to win the game as outlined in the rules before you started playing.
